Fall Travel Tips From the California Welcome Center
On this edition of Volunteer Corner, we highlight the special fall time activities and favorite eats in our region. Living in San Diego County, a common misconception is that we do not get the joys of the autumn season! Although it doesn’t always come with the brisk weather, our city certainly celebrates the changing of the leaves and excess of pumpkin and spice.
The volunteers at the California Welcome Center in Oceanside love their community and LOVE to share their ideas and suggestions on things to do while in the area. Check out these 9 suggestions on unique things to do and favorite places to eat in the fall.
What is your favorite local thing to do in the fall?
“Oceanside Museum of Art’s Art After Dark party is incredible- 500 people in costume with a DJ, interactive art, performance artists, and food trucks!” – Tanya C.
“I love hanging out at harbor beach during the fall. The water and sunsets are amazing during this time of year and the harbor restaurants offer different dining options and happy hours, with beautiful a view. Sitting down there I can paint rocks and place them around town in a peaceful environment.” Visit @O-sideRocks! on Facebook to see her creative masterpieces.- Laurie M.
“Who doesn’t love a visit to the mountains to really feel like autumn is upon us? I love going to Julian and walking the streets with a cool chill in the air and the rustling of leaves, poking my head into all the great little shops. And of course, enjoying some apple pie (and apples)! A visit to Dudley’s for some decadent bread is also a must-do on the way there or back home.” – Judi B.
“I like the trip out to Bates Nut Farm*. It offers a large pumpkin patch, hayrides, ponies, local vendors, and my favorite- the petting zoo. A tip is to bring a picnic lunch with you and sit out listening to the live music that is offered. Amazing photo taking opportunities and an escape to the country. ”- Allyson V.
