Destination sustainability is as much about socially responsible practices as it is about earth-friendly programs. Oceanside is a diverse community that was originally home to the Luiseño Band of Mission Indians and today is a cultural melting pot with deep roots in Hispanic and Asia Pacific Islander communities. Museum exhibitions, historical sites, and annual events provide opportunities to connect with and appreciate the city’s rich heritage.
Oceanside’s annual Pride by the Beach Festival in June is known for being family-friendly, laid-back, and right by the beach. As a dedicated ally to the LGBTQ+ community, Oceanside Police Department partners with many local businesses in The Safe Place program, which provides assistance to anyone experiencing a hate crime.
Oceanside welcomes all ages and abilities. In fact, the city is quickly becoming a hub for adaptive action-sports athletes. Annual adaptive events include the US Open Adaptive Surfing
Championships and USA Surfing Championships that features a para-surf division.
