Team Building Retreats at the Beach

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” – Plato

Leadership retreats and teambuilding activities are a way for companies to invest in their greatest resource – the employees – and cultivate a positive company culture. Group activities and games build connections, encourage communication, and provide a relaxing environment to uncover hidden talents. Team building is proven to build loyalty while creating leaders and increase productivity while promoting creativity – and it’s fun for all ages!

Oceanside is an active Southern California beach town with miles of coastline, a recreational harbor and numerous options to eat, play, shop and stay, so it’s a popular choice for small meetings, retreats, and team building activities.

The unpretentious hospitality and beach town vibe welcomes an entrepreneurial spirit; our eclectic community embraces authenticity while welcoming new experiences and ways of thinking – a perfect backdrop for innovative companies looking to invest in their employee’s growth.

We heard back from our latest group, Texas Roadhouse Corporation, who was still raving about their visit to Oceanside. Between a hotel just steps to the beach, a themed dinner on the Pier, a dine around to explore the local fare and breweries, and fun surprises in between, the team had a blast!

It was great fun working with Jenn T., the Regional Marketing Director & Meeting Planner, to plan the itinerary and give them a glimpse of an authentic O’side; here’s her feedback and testimonial about their Oceanside management retreat experience.

What was the purpose / objective for the group gathering?

45 Roadies descended upon Oceanside for 2 ½ days of education, motivation, and fun!  While we like to drive home the points discussed in our meeting & classroom time, we feel it completely beneficial to allow our team time to bond – and fortify their already very strong relationships.

How and Why did you choose Oceanside?

Since Oceanside has become home to our newest Texas Roadhouse location – many of us have fallen in love with its landscape.  What a magnificent place; you can almost feel the stress melt away when you land in California!  Right away our meeting planners noticed the hospitality of the locals, diverse dining scene, ridiculously gorgeous scenery, and the surprising variety of activities available to us.

What was your experience in planning this meeting and event?

It should be known that our meeting planners organize hundreds of small & large events throughout the year – but this event was one of the simplest to arrange.  Dana at Visit Oceanside CVB was essentially in the trenches for us.  She provided a list of restaurants, team building experiences, and even transportation companies for us… and even went to visit with the contacts at these locations for us!  Since her rapport with the community is valued and trusted, she was able to aid in getting many elements of our program booked for us.  Simplified things for us for sure!

What was the team’s feedback after their seaside retreat?

We were beyond excited to partake in an activity inspired by our Nation’s Heroes!*  Even though our group had varied physical abilities, the instructors were able to make the exercises fun, yet challenging.  After the experience, our group felt more connected, more inspired, and more ready to take on any new task thrown our way!  And yes, we were sandy, wet, and exhausted – but we were so happy to have participated!

* Visit Oceanside recommended SI Team building to facilitate a “Navy Seal for a Day” boot camp on Oceanside beach; this is a component of our Hero for a Day team building program.

Tips for Other Groups Planning This Type of Experience

Your first call should be to the local Conference & Visitors Bureau in your city of interest; this is your “boots on the ground” connection to help plan a successful meeting or gathering. The CVB has the destination knowledge and local resources needed to provide in-market expertise. And these services are FREE to you! Free because the services are funded by tax assessments and those vested in growing tourism in the community. Make sure to ask about any incentives or sponsorship’s available such as Oceanside’s Perk Incentive Client Rewards Program.
