“Greetings from Oceanside” – 2017 Fall Issue
Visit Oceanside has partnered with Midnight Jack Brewing Company for an inaugural Oceanside brewery collaboration project. This special campaign includes a custom beer recipe highlighting the distinctive flavors of the region and a colorful custom label, capturing the unique personality of the city. Greetings from Oceanside is a limited release brew available in a collector’s can and on draft at select Oceanside restaurants, tap rooms, and hotels.
Midnight Jack Brewing developed a special recipe specifically for this 2017 Fall Issue, using locally sourced ingredients. Greetings from Oceanside is a Hazy IPA made with Azacca, Mandarina Bavaria, and Warrior hops. The beer was then double-dry-hopped with Azacca hops, fresh pineapple, and locally grown Tangelos.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be the first brewery to partner with Visit Oceanside,” said John Scheri, Head Brewer of Midnight Jack Brewing Company. “Almost all of the ingredients for this beer were either locally grown or locally acquired here in San Diego. We focus on using the best and the freshest ingredients available to us and that means keeping it local. Even our yeast, one of the most important ingredients, is produced right here in Oceanside.”

“Creativity and collaboration is engrained in the Oceanside spirit, so this type of partnership is the perfect fit. Oceanside businesses pride themselves on providing locally made, hand-crafted, artisan products to visitors and we are excited to recognize our brewery partners within this artistic retail space,” said Cerina De Souza, Director of Marketing for Visit Oceanside.
“Having an annual beer will offer our visitors an exciting way to discover different breweries and to collect these unique souvenirs as they are launched each fall. We look forward to continuing this campaign annually, working with different Oceanside breweries to create a one-of-a-kind blended beer, with an accompanying custom Oceanside-themed label.”
Take a Look: Tune in to the “Let’s Have Some Beer” webisode at 25:33 where hosts Jeff and John interview John Scheri, owner and brewmaster at Midnight Jack Brewing. John shares insights into his brewing process and discusses what went into brewing “Greetings from Oceanside.”
Complementing the 2017 brew is a custom label featuring a vintage postcard reading, “Greetings from Oceanside, California”- a direct nod to the name of the beer. Within each letter spelling out “Oceanside,” there is a different photo highlighting unique activities and locations around the city, from the harbor and the Oceanside Pier to Mission San Luis Rey and the Star Theatre. An Oceanside postcard would not be complete without featuring palm trees, the epitome of Southern California coastal living. There is even an Oceanside replica postage stamp from 1931. From the colorful label to the refreshing brew, the 2017 Fall Issue, Greetings from Oceanside, is a special treat to be savored.

Located on the western end of San Diego’s “Hops Highway,” Oceanside currently is home to ten craft beer labels and an eclectic collection of craft beer and craft cocktail establishments ranging from breweries to tap rooms and tasting gardens. Entrepreneurial brew masters in Oceanside are pushing creative barriers by experimenting with unusual ingredients likes watermelon and beets, non-traditional processes and even new styles, such as mead.
