The community of Oceanside voted in person and online for Skye Walker to paint this piece out of 35 amazing artists thanks to the Oceanside Mainstreet Association‘s Art That Excites Program.

Skye Walker has done everything from work in the action sports industry as a designer and art director to creating large mural installations for large brands such as Whole Foods and Sierra Nevada Brewing. But his art and design are always rooted in and connected to our environment. Each mural he paints has a connection to Mother Nature in the hopes that the viewer will remember that earth is our home and we can be inspired by it… but we must also protect it.
In 2017, he crafted a piece of magic on the side of the Star Theatre. It honors the ocean and Mother Nature and how our town thrives off what the sea provides for the community and its history. His connection to Oceanside’s beaches spans from a childhood spent in our sand to expressing the power of our ocean in this well-known fixture to the city.Â
That’s how we see it in O’side. In a town full of artists and makers, it was inevitable the entire city would become a canvas. Today, the murals adorning shops, eateries, and public buildings are part of our identity, a celebration of the vibrancy of our unique culture.
