Visit Oceanside Advertising Campaign Receives Top Industry Award

Oceanside, Calif.- March 21, 2018 – Visit Oceanside (VO) took home top honors for its latest branding campaign at the recent ADDY Awards, the San Diego advertising community’s top creative recognition event. Featuring the unique people, places and events that give Oceanside its one-of-a-kind personality, VO’s “Respect the O’riginals” print and cross platform campaigns both received Gold, the event’s highest award, while the “O’riginal O’siders” video series earned a Bronze in the category of Film, Video and Sounds.

“We are thrilled that the advertising community has recognized our brand for its creativity and originality,” said Leslee Gaul, CEO of Visit Oceanside. “Our campaign capitalizes on travelers’ desire for authentic experiences by showcasing the incredible range of offerings in Oceanside through images and stories that truly capture the essence of what sets the destination apart.”

Working with San Diego-based Greenhaus agency, Visit Oceanside debuted the new branding campaign in 2017. According to Paul Whitbeck, managing director for Greenhaus, Oceanside’s Respect the O’riginals campaign pushes the creative expression for the destination.

“As an Oceanside resident since 2003, I’ve seen the city evolve as a destination in so many positive ways, while remaining true to its roots,” said Whitbeck. “Oceanside isn’t just about things to do and see, but rather the people of Oceanside including residents, entrepreneurs and visitors alike. This is what today’s travelers find exciting and why they seek out Oceanside.”

Visit Oceanside’s “Respect the O’riginals” campaign focuses on four pillars: golf, multigenerational, family and girlfriend getaways. Print and digital advertisements reflect quirky love letter postcards from Oceanside with imagery featuring people of all ages enjoying every day Oceanside activities from surfing and skateboarding to sipping craft beer or hanging out at Oceanside’s iconic pier. The O’riginal O’siders video series complements the ad campaign and features four separate shorts profiling forward-thinking Oceanside locals and business people including Linksoul founder John Ashworth, Chef Davin Waite of Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub, water photographer Myles McGuinness and Julie Rais-Ellis of Rais Cais handbags.

Each year, the San Diego edition of the American Advertising Federation’s National ADDY Awards are hosted by SDX, San Diego’s professional organization for the marketing and advertising industry. The Addy’s celebrate the best creative work in San Diego. The event also includes the Brand Diego Awards, which honor the best brands and individuals from around the region. This year, SDX presented 16 gold, 34 silver and 36 bronze ADDY awards chosen from 201 entries.
