Join us for some local flavor at the Mercato – Farmers Market & Reclaimed Treasures event taking place in the South Morro Hills of Oceanside on June 4th! From 8:00am – 4:00pm, come by this amazing Farmers Market where you will be able to purchase fresh berries, avocados, tomatoes, lettuce, lemons, passion fruit, grapefruit, succulents, cut flowers and much more- all locally grown and produced in the South Morro Hills neighborhood of Oceanside. Mixed among the produce vendors will also be local artisans selling and showcasing hand crafted and vintage items.

A true hidden gem, South Morro Hills is an incredible 3,800 acre region of agricultural lands nestled in the hills of North East Oceanside, on the southern boarder of South Fallbrook.

What does the word Mercato mean? Mercato is actually Italian for market! The South Morro Hills area reminds some people of the likes of Tuscany, giving light to the unique, rich, cultural feeling that will be felt by all who attend this one-of-a-kind event.

What type of vendors will be at event? While you are there you will learn a lot about the local crops and have an opportunity to taste wine produced and distributed from the local award-winning and picturesque Beach House Winery.  Local artisan’s will also be in attendance displaying their hand-crafted creations, delicious Gelato, and natural products, such as essential oils. Meet with local vendors and discover vintage treasures including apparel, jewelry, and skateboarding memorabilia from industry pioneers TransWorld SKATEboarding.

What local farms will be showcasing at the Mercato? The caliber of agricultural vendors to expect is incredible. The event will be showcasing the rich farming heritage of this region by including Mellano & Company, a third generation leading cut flower grower in the United States, Nagata Bros. Farm, which has been growing berries and cherimoyas since 1920, Blue Heron Farm, whom grows organic vegetables and berries for local farmers markets and restaurants, and Altman Plants is the largest grower of cacti and succulents in the United States. This is just a sampling of some of the vendors that will be present during the event.

Why do our local farmers and residents love South Morro Hills so much? Here is what a few of them had to say:

“South Morro Hills is one of Oceanside’s hidden treasures. Abundant with fresh fruits, flowers, and vegetables, this is definitely an event you don’t want to miss while supporting your local farmers.”- Kim Murray, Owner Beach House Winery

“We are excited to be a part of the Mercato, its a great opportunity to connect our local flowers with our local neighbors!” –Michelle Castellano, Mellano & Company

What makes this event so special? Oceanside is primarily known for its amazing beaches, harbor, and the historic Mission San Luis Rey, but now local farmers are opening their doors and hosting events like the Mercato, creating new experience for local residents and visitors alike, inviting everyone out to Oceanside’s countryside to see where fresh and local begins.

Come on out to meet the farmers, make some new friends, and unearth some treasures out in the warm Southern California sun, all while enjoying the sights and smells of the Mercato!
