With summer unofficially beginning on Memorial Day weekend, we are excited for everything taking place right here in Oceanside this June (with a few honorable mentions happening around San Diego County). The event calendar is nearly bursting at the seams with family-friendly, musically-inspired, cultural, and outdoor activities so we’ve highlighted 13 events to give you a taste of what you can experience during your next June trip to O’side. What: Get ready for treats that will tempt all of your senses at the 2019 San Diego County Fair presented by Albertsons/Vons. They are inviting guests to skip down the yellow brick road and enter into an “Oz-some” world inspired by L. Frank Baum’s classic tale, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” This is the largest annual event in San Diego County and one of the 10 largest fairs in North America with more than 1.6 million visitors annually. You’ll leave the ordinary world behind the minute you step into this magical sweet spot overflowing with opportunities to truly savor summer with the excitement of a wide-eyed kid. Whether it’s sampling chocolate bubbling from a fountain, soaking up the glittery ocean views from atop the Ferris wheel, discovering how nature’s sweet fruits grow and ripen, or enjoying the Fair’s golden-ticket entertainment, your toughest decision will be choosing what to indulge in first!

What: The First Friday: Oceanside Art Walk will be celebrating the beginning of the summer season and the thriving arts and culture scene in the heart of downtown Oceanside. This event will showcase live performances, music, poetry, art education, and culinary and pop-up art galleries showcased in local businesses and public spaces. Admission is free and open to the public, and admission into the Oceanside Museum of Art is half-priced during the Art Walk so come on out!

What: The Annual Filipino Cultural Celebration will take place on Saturday, June 8, marking the 18-year partnership between the Filipino-American Cultural Organization (FACO), the Oceanside Public Library, and Friends of the Oceanside Public Library. The celebration will offer attendees a day filled with Philippine dancing and music, colorful costumes, special performances, and delicious Filipino and international cuisine. In addition there will be crafts and activities for children in the courtyard of the Civic Center Library Community Rooms from noon to 5pm. Event admission is FREE and open to the public.

What: Oceanside Parks and Recreation presents the Movie by the Park series! The movie to be featured is The Goonies. The movie will begin at dark (around 7:30pm). Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and set up their own “movie theater.” This event is free, and family friendly.

What: The Annual Inter-Tribal Powwow at the San Luis Rey Mission is here! This two day event takes place Saturday and Sunday and includes arts and crafts booths, food vendors, tribal music and dancing, and more.

What: Oceanside welcomes the return of the Marine Corps Mud Run on Camp Pendleton. The Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Mud Run ® is the world’s dirtiest party featuring challenging 10K and 5K runs with rolling hills, river crossings, two 5-foot walls, three massive mud pits, tunnels, slippery hill, a cargo climb and much more! Enjoy food, live music, muddy merchants, family fun activities, beer, Marine Corps displays and the Mud Run Store.

What: The Surfing America USA Championships brings the best surfers and stand-up paddlers from across the country for competition and includes longboard, SUP and adaptive divisions. Sponsored by Surfing America, Inc. Surfing America is the IOC-recognized National Governing Body for the sport of surfing in the USA. Surfing America is responsible for holding the USA Championships each year and for selecting the official USA Surf Team to compete internationally.

What: Visit Oceanside welcomes the return of Race Across the West (RAW) and Race Across America (RAAM)! Come show your Oceanside spirit by cheering on the start of these endurance racers! RAAM is one of the most respected and longest running endurance sports events in the world, where racers must traverse 3,000 miles across 12 states. RAW is one of the world’s top RAAM qualifying events, taking place from Oceanside, CA to Durango, CO – 860 miles across the rugged American West. Both the RAAM and RAW racers are on the course at the same time making it a perfect way to see how you might do racing RAAM. June 11: Race begins for RAAM solo riders and all RAW participants. June 15: Race begins for RAAM team riders.

What: Come enjoy the NSDC NAACP’s annual Juneteenth Multicultural Celebration and Jazz Festival! This day long celebration is free and open to the public, featuring shopping, food, youth activities, and other informational and health awareness booths. Live Gospel and Jazz entertainment will also be presented throughout the day.

What: All are invited to attend the free “Concert in the Park”. It will be held at Mance Buchanon Park. The pre-show entertainment starts at 5:00 p.m. Come and enjoy classic rock, eighties pop, funky Southern Rock to heart-rending Van Morrison ballads. Everyone will enjoy this fun band as you walk down memory lane. Come early and bring your blanket or beach chair. Food and drink vendors will be on site.

What: Come enjoy Oceanside’s annual Independence Parade as it makes it way north on Coast Highway from Wisconsin Avenue to Civic Center Drive (just past City Hall). This year three “Hometown Heroes” will be honored, including former Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood. Come see floats, bands, walking groups, cool cars and much more as we pay tribute to our nation, Hometown Heroes, our city and our local businesses. Viewing of the parade is available from the sidewalks along the entire route. Spectators are encouraged to bring folding chairs. The highest concentration of viewers will be on the north end of the route past Seagaze Avenue. Running time from beginning to end is about two hours.

- The parade starts in front of the 101 Cafe (Coast Highway at Wisconsin Avenue) at 10:00 am and works its way north with the first unit of the parade reaching City Hall around 10:15 am.

What: Join Brad Byrom, head of the California History Department at MiraCosta College, for an in-depth and entertaining history tour of Mission San Luis Rey and the surrounding area. A Wine and Cheese Reception will also be included.

What: The Samoan Cultural Festival returns to Oceanside with a week of activities and events. This event is open to the public, will include traditional dancing, live music and performances, cultural competitions, food and local vendors, and more so don’t miss it! Come watch the international cup stacking championship competition on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th.
