Construction Begins On New Beach Hotel
Construction of the new 149-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott just steps from Oceanside beach and pier officially kicked off with a groundbreaking on September 18. The 40-million dollar project is slated to open in January of 2014 and will be Oceanside’s newest destination for business and leisure travel. The five-story hotel is a contemporary modern piece, which will include a street level seafood restaurant and a roof-top swimming pool. The property is located at 110 N. Myers St. and Mission.
Award of Excellence for Holiday Inn Oceanside Marina
Travelers will be pleased to know that the Holiday Inn Oceanside Marina recently received the IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) 2012 Torchbearer Award, the company’s most prestigious award. The hotel is one of only 102 properties within the Americas chosen from the IHG system of more than 4,500 hotels for achieving the highest levels of excellence in all aspects of operation — from quality to customer satisfaction. A 2012 Torchbearer trophy, the company’s symbol of excellence, will be on permanent display at the hotel.
The Tin Fish Oceanside Pier
Hungry beach goers have a new dining option just steps from the sand. The Tin Fish Oceanside Pier restaurant recently opened beneath the pier on The Strand in Oceanside. Formerly a McDonald’s, the remodeled site includes patio seating as well as the restaurant’s signature blue roof. D’Vino Café & Wine Bar
Oceanside Harbor is home to a chic new café, D’Vino Café & Wine Bar. The Italian café has large windows with views to the waterfront, a sleek bar and scenic outdoor patio. A combination of new vogue cuisine and Italian fusion, the menu includes items such as Bone-In Pork Chopsicle, Italian Nachos and Fennel and Cuttlefish Salad. The café also serves gelato, Italian pastries and beer and wine flights.

Fun reaches new heights with Coastal Aero Scenic’s new vintage biplane operation based out of Oceanside Municipal Airport. Passengers ride in a 1941 restored Waco Biplane and are treated to breathtaking views of the coastal landscape.
More Bike Trails
Oceanside has become even more bike friendly with the completion of a new trail from Wisconsin Avenue to Tyson Street. The new route will soon connect to a public trail project from Oceanside Boulevard to Tyson Street. Oceanside is the only city in San Diego County to be named a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. With ample trails and great bus and rail connections, visitors can get anywhere in and through Oceanside by bike.
Beach lovers will have more sand and wider beaches in Oceanside this spring thanks to SANDAG’s (San Diego Association of Governments) 2012 Regional Beach Sand Project that will place 1.4 million cubic yards of beach quality sand on regional beaches. The project began in early September and continues through October.
