What's New in Oceanside Summer 2026

Oceanside, Calif. (June 2026) — Summer arrives in O’side with sun-soaked beaches, swell-chasing energy, landmark events, new openings and reasons to stay longer. From a gelato shop taking flight inside one of California’s most storied landmarks to America’s biggest patriotic celebration on the coast, Oceanside is writing a bold new chapter for Summer 2026.

Culinary Updates: An’s Gelato at the Top Gun House, Kettle on Coast, All Things Waite

One of Oceanside’s most beloved landmarks is leveling up. The restored 1888 Victorian cottage nestled on North Pacific Street has drawn fans from around the world since its appearance in the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun. This summer in line with the 40th anniversary of the original film, An’s Gelato takes over the space with its new “An’s Gate D5” concept, bringing a vintage aviation-inspired vibe, creative flavors and a fresh wave of energy to the space. Voted #1 Gelato in America by USA Today’s 10Best two years in a row, An’s Gelato is a beloved local brand known for their conceptual locations and creative gelato flavors. The new Oceanside outpost will mark An’s Gelato’s fifth location. Whether visitors are die-hard Maverick fans or simply chasing something sweet after a morning on the pier, Gate D5 is ready for boarding beginning July 1.

A few blocks away, Kettle on Coast is generating its own buzz ahead of its June 11 grand opening. Taking over the space previously held by Petite Madeline, Kettle on Coast is led by owner Givinno Rossini and Executive Chef David Lay (Kettner Exchange, Juniper and Ivy) who spent his teen years locally. Driven by Chef Lay’s own North African heritage, the menu is a fusion of African diasporic flavors and traditions, combined with locally sourced ingredients in nourishing dishes, with round tables and a minimal interior keeping the focus squarely on food and conversation. The scratch kitchen philosophy extends to everything from house-made yogurt, teff naan and tahini to agnolotti pasta that takes two full days to prepare. The coffee program features single-origin espresso from an award-winning Vista roaster, and pastries carry on the beloved recipes of Petite Madeline. A lively events calendar, including monthly Bottomless Beats, chef pop-ups and an acoustic Dinner & Show series, reflects Rossini’s belief that a restaurant should nourish community as much as it feeds it.

Also expanding this summer is All Things Waite , the growing creative ecosystem behind The Plot and Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub. What began as a couple of restaurants has evolved into a platform for community, sustainability and culinary storytelling. Current offerings include a new weekday lunch tasting menu at The Plot, the intimate omakase-style Waite & Sea experience with Chef Davin Waite at Wrench & Rodent, and live events like Plantscape: Outdoor Uprising, a night of live fire, chef stations and music under the stars. The team is also producing Feeding the (R)evolution, a podcast exploring food systems and the humans shaping what’s next.

Landmark Summer Celebrations: America’s 250th and Oceanside’s Semiquincentennial

Oceanside joins communities across the country in honoring a once-in-a-generation milestone. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the city will host the Oceanside USA 250 Festival, a community festival honoring America’s 250th birthday at the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheater. Held immediately following Oceanside’s 30th Annual Independence Parade, the festival is expected to draw residents and visitors for an afternoon of live music, local food and beverage vendors, family activities, and community exhibits that showcase Oceanside’s pride and patriotic spirit. MainStreet Oceanside is also marking the milestone with a “Hometown Heroes” tribute during the Independence Day Parade, honoring the specific heroes who make Oceanside a vibrant place to live. Stick around for Fireworks displays (on July 3rd), historic flyovers from the nearby Camp Pendleton, and more. Celebrate summer in style at Frontwave Arena during the 3rd of July Summer Spectacular presented by TrueCare. From 5:30-10:30 PM, guests 21 and over can enjoy an unforgettable night of live music, interactive games, elevated food and drink offerings, raffles, and giveaways, all set against one of the best views of the Oceanside fireworks and drone show beginning at 9 PM. The event offers a range of viewing experiences, from upscale VIP fireside lounges and patio seating to relaxed general admission access on the plaza turf hill and indoor lounge. Honoring the Region’s Heritage: Inter-Tribal Pow Wow

First held at the Mission San Luis Rey in 1997 and a community tradition every year since, the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians Inter-Tribal Pow Wow returns to the grounds of the historic “King of Missions.” Held June 13-14, the two-day event includes arts and crafts booths, food vendors, tribal music and dancing, and more, honoring the enduring heritage of the Luiseño people and welcoming the broader community to celebrate Native American culture in one of Southern California’s most historically resonant settings.

Surf & Celebration: Longboard Festival and Super Girl Surf Pro

Living history is vividly on display during the 41st Annual Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club Contest and Beach Festival. Held August 7–9, 2026 at the Oceanside Pier, the weekend boasts three days of family-friendly competition featuring surfers from Hawaii to Santa Cruz competing in the Coalition of Surfing Clubs, alongside the King and Queen of the Pier Pro/Am Invitational with $5,000 in prize money per division. The 2026 event carries special historical weight, timed to coincide with the California Surf Museum‘s landmark exhibition, Surfing: Hawaiian Royalty’s Gift to the World. The Museum will stage a rare in-water demonstration of ancient Hawaiian surfboards on Friday, August 7, offering the public a chance to witness the origins of surfing in motion. The event is expected to draw some of the biggest names in California surfing, who will paddle out on the historic boards and help bring this remarkable chapter of surf culture to life. Two weeks later, the 20th annual Super Girl Surf Festival arrives August 21–23, bringing the world’s largest women’s surf competition and music festival back to Oceanside with over 100 top professional female surfers, a free concert stage and a Festival Village packed with wellness, art and community.

New Grapeline Wine Tours Offer Seamless “Waves to Wine” Experience

Visit Oceanside and Visit Temecula Valley debuted the Waves-to-Wine program in March as a curated road trip experience connecting Oceanside’s iconic surf culture with Temecula Valley’s sun-soaked wine country. Grapeline Wine Tours has expanded upon the program, launching a new Thursday transportation and wine tourism experience that brings the Waves-to-Wine connection to life by linking the Oceanside coast with Temecula Valley Wine Country in a seamless guided day trip. Designed to simplify travel between the coast and wine country, the new “Waves to Wine” Grapeline tour experience allows visitors to enjoy Temecula Valley’s acclaimed wineries while using Oceanside as a coastal home base, further strengthening the connection between the two destinations and showcasing the diversity of Southern California experiences available just a short drive apart.

In the space between late summer and early Fall, Oceanside relaxes into its most coveted season, with epic sunsets, warm waters and fewer crowds.
