Generational Black Pioneers Featuring Oceanside Firsts at The Brooks Theatre

Bliss Tea and Treats, Oceanside Historical Society and Oceanside Theatre Co. are excited to celebrate the stories of Black men and women who were “Oceanside Firsts” in the second production of Generational Black Pioneers on February 17, 2024 (see flyer below for details). The setting will be in the 1960s during the Civil Rights Movement and the turmoil of the Vietnam War. The production seeks to show the parallel of the past struggles with those still being faced today. Stories will include some of the first Black teachers in the Oceanside school district; Oceanside High School’s first Black Homecoming Queen, our first Black mayor Terry Johnson and others. We will also celebrate Charlesetta Reece Mann, whose life was depicted last year, and the future renaming of the Seagaze Post Office in her honor.
