10 Events to Not Miss this March
Spring time is already here, can you believe it? With the month of March comes the blossoming of flowers (including the famous Flower Fields!) and the return of some of Oceanside’s iconic monthly events including the ever popular First Friday: Art Walk! March truly is one of the most beautiful times to be in Oceanside, and the countless fun events and activities taking place throughout the month make it an ideal time to come and visit. In addition, this year we are excited to have the Pan American Beach Handball Championships taking place right here on our Harbor Beach sand! So no matter what you’re looking to do or see, Oceanside has you covered this spring!

What: The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are back! From March 1st – May 13th, come to Carlsbad Ranch and take in the beautiful sights and smells that come from over 50 acres of vibrant blooming flowers! Parking is free, and admission is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors 60+, and $8 for children 3-10. Additional group tours, season passes, and wagon rides are also available to purchase. Special events such as concerts and workshops will be taking place throughout the time the fields are open

What: Celebrate the thriving arts and culture scene in the heart of downtown Oceanside. This special First Friday: Oceanside Art Walk will showcase live performances, music, poetry, art education, and pop-up galleries and more, all displayed in and around the SpringHill Suites hotel. Admission is free and open to the public.

What: Join Oceanside Adventures and Beach House Winery on the first Saturday of every month for a 90-minute evening cruise aboard a luxurious catamaran through the beautiful Oceanside Harbor. The cruise features an appetizer platter and three tastes of wines from Beach House Winery. Cost is $39 per person, 21 and over only.

What: The U.S. Navy Tenors will be performing a FREE concert RAIN OR SHINE right here in Oceanside!

What: The USA Beach Handball team is coming to Oceanside Harbor to compete in the 2018 Pan American Beach Handball Championships! This championship will feature teams from North America, South America and Central America playing for the title of Pan American Beach Handball Champion. Both men’s and women’s teams will be competing, with the USA men’s team being the defending champions. Featured teams will represent Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico and the USA. Both Brazilian teams, men and women, have won world championships several times in recent years. This tournament is free to all spectators! The best 4 teams on both the men’s and women’s side advance to the World Championships in Russia, July 2018.

What: The locally organized South O Walkabout is a monthly walking event that showcases our localvore beach community and its’ unique shops and restaurants. This monthly event encourages attendees to discover the unique shopping and dining experiences offered in South Oceanside. So come eat, drink, shop, and Walk; Good Vibes only! The theme for this March South O Walkabout is “Shake your Shamrock”!
When: Wednesday, March 14, 2018, 5-8pm
Where: South Oceanside – The Walkabout footprint is the shopping district in South O. On the south end it starts at Urge Gastropub and extends north to the Privateer Marketplace on Whaley St. The easy walk is about .4 miles each way.
What: Robert Rauschenberg used his artistic genius to creatively combine multiple images into a single cohesive work. Processes such as frottage, collage, assemblage, and printmaking will be taught and demonstrated by Robin Douglas so that each participant has the opportunity to create and take home their own contemporary masterpiece. All supplies provided including drinks and appetizers. Price is $40 for OMA members, $50 for visitors.

What: A challenging mountain bike race featuring varied terrain, elevation and panoramic views aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton near Oceanside. This challenging mountain bike race offers Marines and Civilians alike a 15 or 25 mile course with 600 feet of elevation, varied terrain and panoramic views aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, neighboring Oceanside. This race also features a 1 Mile Kids Ride for the pint size Hard Corps athletes (Ages 6 and up).

What: The community-wide “Big Read” program is back in Oceanside! Every year one special book is selected to be the center of a reading program that includes open discussions and events centered around the book throughout the city. This year’s selected book for the reading program is Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. Station Eleven is an audacious, darkly glittering story set in the eerie days of civilization’s collapse. A fictional swine flu pandemic, known as the “Georgia Flu”, has devastated the world, killing most of the population. The spellbinding story follows a nomadic group of actors roaming the scattered outposts of civilization, risking everything for art and humanity. Events include book giveaways at the Oceanside Museum of Art, Scholar Panel Discussions at MiraCosta College, an Escape Room and more!

What: Come enjoy a FREE family friendly event from 10am – 11am on Saturday March 31st, 2018. There will be designated egg hunt areas as well as various prizes, a meet and greet with the Easter Bunny, and a magic show for the whole family to enjoy! This event is free for children ages 3-11.
