California Surfing Day – Stop. Drop. Surf O’side
California’s second annual California Surfing Day — the official holiday to celebrate California’s surfing lifestyle and honor the history, culture, and future of surfing — is coming Friday, Sept. 20, 2019.
As one of California’s original surf towns and an epicenter for the surf industry, Oceanside is celebrating its place as California’s “Capital of Surf” with a Stop, Drop and Surf O’side event.
Spearheaded by the Oceanside Surf Industry, Oceanside’s surf community will show its pride for California’s official state sport with a history-making group beach photo followed by a fun surf session.
Recognizing Oceanside’s important contributions to surf culture and the surf industry, Oceanside Mayor Peter Weiss has certified California Surfing Day an official city holiday and has given permission for employees to be an hour late to work so that they can join the city’s “Board Meeting.”
Bring your board and your friends and join us for a morning of surf camaraderie and a history making beach photo. Surfers young and old will hit the beach at 6:15 a.m., pause for a quick group photo, then head out and enjoy the morning glass. The first 200 surfers that show-up and participate in the photo will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Plus, enjoy treats from some of our awesome local businesses including Beach Break Café and Suja Juice.
The fun will continue at the California Surf Museum in downtown Oceanside with free admission on September 20 and talk stories featuring local surf legends.
