Every year from December through April, magnificent gray whales pass through San Diego’s coastal waters on their way to and from their breeding grounds, but other sea life such as blue whale, dolphins, and sea lions make whale watching in Oceanside a year-round activity. Visitors can enjoy the San Diego whale watching experience by contacting one of Oceanside’s boat tour and charter services listed here:
Popular Oceanside Charters
Oceanside Adventures offers a variety of whale watching excursions everyday! Tour operators have extensive knowledge of the whales and their migration habits and will happily share this information during the tour. Trips are 2 hours and are great for families, couples, private parties, and corporate events. This adventure is perfect for anyone and everyone that loves the ocean or the wildlife they may encounter.
Owned and operated by veteran Oceanside skipper Captain Joe Cacciola, The Sea Star is a private group charter boat offering charters for sport fishing, whale watching and floating marine science labs. For the late anglers and boat enthusiasts, they also offer burials at sea. We supply food and beverage service from the excellent galley on board.
What to Wear
ABSOLUTELY NO HEELS OF ANY KIND PERMITTED. Flat shoes and flip flops only will be allowed aboard. Deck shoes are the best. San Diego is well-known for having one of the best climates of any city in the world. We happily have an abundance of sunshine and warm, comfortable days. With an average of only ten inches of rain a year, we usually experience rain only in February and early March if we have a rainy season at all. It is usually slightly cooler on the water so we recommend that you bring layers of clothing such as jackets or sweaters so that you are comfortable throughout your cruise.
What to Bring
We recommend that you bring a snack or beverage, favorite CD/ IPod, binoculars and, of course, your camera. For overnight charters, the charter company should provide a list of items to remember.
