Bike Routes Starting in Oceanside

We have created a variety of Oceanside Bike Routes that all begin and end at the Oceanside Pier. Each route description includes a difficulty rating, distance breakdown, route overview and a list of suggested sightseeing locations or interest points along the way. You are invited to browse each trail to decide which route would be right for you and your group.

Within each description, the route has been given a difficulty rating categorizing it as either easy, intermediate or advanced to give you an idea of what you can expect along the way. Below is a quick breakdown for each classification:

  • EASY. For the cyclist looking for an easy or family-friendly ride perfect for a casual day exploring the area, we have 3 suggested routes for you: Bike to Mission San Luis Rey, Bike to Oceanside Harbor and Bike to Carlsbad Village. These routes are low impact and are not long in distance, leaving plenty of time to explore along the way.
  • INTERMEDIATE. For the cyclist really looking to explore and challenge themselves to unique rides outside of the Oceanside city limits. The intermediate rides are perfect if you are looking for a half to full day experience. These suggested routes include many sightseeing locations and give riders the option of riding round trip or taking the train back to Oceanside. The intermediate Oceanside Bike Trails include Bike to Encinitas, Bike to Torrey Pines and Bike to San Onofre State Park (through Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton).
  • ADVANCED. For the endurance athlete, we have outlined 2 bike routes that offer the perfect blend of scenic views and physical challenge. The Bike to Mission San Juan Capistrano and the Bike to Sleeping Indian routes are very popular among the local experienced riders.

Family Fun on the San Luis Rey Bike Trail

When my husband, John, had suggested we take the kids to Oceanside for a weekend away, I envisioned a relaxing day of sunbathing. But John had something else in mind: a bike ride to visit the historic San Luis Rey Mission. Actually, architecture, great weather and ocean views sounded good to me. It wasn’t every day we got to see the ocean. Melanie and Ryan, our 16-year-old twins, would love their dad’s idea. Read More.

RAAM-Support-Vehicle
Have you seen the RAAM Vans?

If you are visiting Oceanside in June, there is a good chance that you will see vehicles covered in stickers and decals, some even with speakers attached to the roof of the vehicles.  You may ask yourself what is going on?, but have no fear! These are the RAAM vans! They are the support vehicles for the participants of Race Across America (RAAM) and Race Across the West (RAW) and will be traveling with the riders as they make their way from Oceanside, CA to their final destinations of either Annapolis, MD or Durango, CO. The support vehicles carry the food, water, gear, and tool kits for the athletes, so that they don’t have to worry about anything except riding as fast as they can to the finish line. For the safety of the riders, the vehicles are required to be clearly marked with the team’s name, participation number, event decals, etc. Read More
