Oceanside Honor Bowl Football Invitational and Military Expo
September 6 & 7, 2013
Oceanside High School will play host to the 2013 Honor Bowl, a high school football showcase to benefit military veterans. The bowl will feature eight elite varsity high school football programs from the Southern California region, as well as the Marine Camp Pendleton football teams. The event will also include halftime shows, parachute drops, a military memorial wall and food court. The Oceanside event will take place on Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7. Teams participating include Oceanside High, Corona Centennial, Serra Gardena, Notre Dame, Del Oro, Upland, Oaks Christian and Saint Bonaventure. www.thehonorgroup.org

OAA Summer Fly-In Car Show

Oceanside Airport Association presents a fun-filled afternoon featuring vintage planes, classic cars, skydiving exhibitions, remote controlled jets, the go-fast jet pack man and great food! Oceanside Harbor Days
September 28-29, 2013
Oceanside Chamber of Commerce along with Genentech present the annual Oceanside Harbor Days at the Oceanside Harbor. The event will feature arts and craft exhibits, sand castle competition, appearances by pirate Captain Jack, great food and fun activities for the entire family. The event is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Two event filled days of sun, sand, and surf provide an outstanding opportunity for residents and neighbors to experience fun activities including the new Pirates Playground, enhanced arts, crafts and food booth area, Nail ‘n’ Sail Competition, Military, Police & Fire displays, and more. 13th Annual Dia de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos, or “Day of the Dead,” is an all-day, free family event taking place on Sunday, October 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Oceanside’s historic Mission San Luis Rey. Dia de los Muertos is a special event with diverse cultural traditions, remembering and honoring deceased loved ones. The largest festival of its kind in San Diego County, the Mission will come alive with entertainment, food and other vendors. Children will be entertained with a variety of craft activities. The entire family will enjoy 75 diverse vendors, traditional food, chalk cemetery and a classic car show showcasing trunk altars put on by the Por Siempre Car Club. Bike the Coast-Taste The Coast

Oceanside’s 4th annual Bike the Coast-Taste the Coast is a popular family event that promotes Oceanside’s bike-friendly nature, followed by a festival at the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheater with food, drink, music and fun. Beginners, experienced cyclists, kids and families are welcome to participate in the event, which offers five out-and-back routes ranging from 7 miles to 100 miles. The relatively flat, 7 and 15 mile route along the San Luis Rey Bike Trail is the most family-friendly ride and can accommodate visitors with beach cruisers as well as riders with mountain bikes, road bikes and BMX bikes. All routes finish back at the Oceanside Pier, where the “Taste the Coast” portion of the event takes place and features food booths, a beer garden and fun activities for the family. http://bikethecoast.eventmediainc.com

Oceanside Turkey Trot
Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013
Move your feet before you eat! Oceanside’s popular O’side Turkey Trot has grown into a north county Thanksgiving tradition. Last year, a record field of more than 9,000 ran and walked the 5 mile, 5K and kids courses on one of the most scenic, oceanfront courses in America. In the spirit of giving, five dollars from each entry fee may be designated Oceanside schools or a non-profit of the participant’s choice, or to the Move Your Feet Before You Eat Foundation.
