“Togethering” in Oceanside, CA. A Highlight of Summer Travel Season.

“Togethering” In Oceanside, Calif. A Highlight of Summer Travel Season

New PBS Show Showcases Trend of Traveling with Extended Family with One Episode Taking Place in Oceanside.

Oceanside, Calif. – April 2, 2012– As busy work and home schedules mean families are spending more and more time apart, vacationing together or “togethering” in meaningful locales has become an increasingly popular trend. The new PBS reality series “Getting Away Together” explores this travel phenomenon with an episode taking place in Oceanside, Calif. Viewers can currently watch the episode online at http://www.gettingawaytogether.com/destination/oceanside-california

The Oceanside episode follows three generations of the Hatch family from Utah who gather together for a Southern California beach vacation. Home base for the 46 family members is a stunning, oceanfront, 10 bedroom vacation rental that is part of Beach Front Only’s collection of rental accommodations in the city. The home’s amenities include an ocean front patio, two hot tubs, two ocean view rooftop decks, two gourmet kitchens and 10 bedrooms each with its own bathroom.

The show captures the Hatch family enjoying time at the beach, taking surf lessons and hanging out at the house. It also shows the group venturing around town to places such as Oceanside Harbor, California Surf Museum Oceanside, downtown Sunset Market, Oceanside Pier and the nearby San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The family also fueled up at some favorite local joints including the 101 Café.

“Oceanside is the ideal location for families vacationing together. It’s accessible and has beautiful scenery, as well as a fun variety of attractions and adventures,” said Leslee Gaul, CEO of Visit Oceanside. “Making our city even more enticing is the wide selection of accommodations, including rental homes, which are perfect for extended families looking for multi-bedroom accommodations, kitchens and a sense of comfort under one roof.”

Vacation rentals are one of the fastest-growing hospitality categories in North America, with groups of friends and families discovering them now more than ever. In each episode of Getting Away Together, a new group of travelers is featured as they unwind with meaningful travel experiences in fun locales, with vacation rentals as their home base.

“Staying in a professionally managed vacation rental home is a unique lodging option which allows families and friends to stay together, under one roof, in a fully furnished home,” said Alex Risser, president of Vacation Rental Managers Association. “One of the core issues facing the vacation rental industry remains the lack of awareness surrounding the lodging option. Getting Away Together is an ideal outlet for increasing awareness and serves as an educational tool for traveling patrons, which in turn, increases tourism revenue dollars for each destination the series features.”

There are millions of vacation rental choices across North America, from individual owners to professional companies who maintain and service vacation rental properties and their guests each day which includes all of the proper inspections, secure reservation services, housekeeping, landscaping, laundry, etc. Professional vacation rental companies provide all the benefits of other lodging options with additional amenities and value, including extra values or coupons for local activities, shopping and dining, as well as free rental cars, gift cards, home features and more.

Visit Oceanside Unveils New, Interactive Visitor’s Guide

Visit Oceanside Unveils New, Interactive Visitor’s Guide

Video Vignettes of Local Personalities Showcase Oceanside From An Insider’s Perspective

Oceanside, Calif.- May 30, 2012– Just in time for summer, Visit Oceanside Conference and Visitors Bureau has unveiled an all-new, interactive Visitor’s Guide, with a local’s insight through creative and insightful “My Oceanside” vignettes.

The redesigned, pocket-sized guide offers a lifestyle-oriented approach to visiting Oceanside with sections on family fun, recreation, arts and culture, dining and shopping. New for this year are QR codes throughout the guide that link to short video vignettes of local personalities such as pro surfer Julie Cox, director of the California Surf Museum, and Roddy Browning, Oceanside resident and owner of the hot spot The Flying Pig Pub & Kitchen. Through these “My Oceanside” vignettes, visitors get to know the city through the unique perspective of locals. Vignettes can also be viewed through the Visit Oceanside YouTube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/visitoceanside

“We are excited about the QR codes because they allow us to provide visitors with a human, emotional connection to the Oceanside experience without adding bulk in pages,” said Leslee Gaul, CEO of Visit Oceanside. “And yet, despite these new mobile tools, many visitors continue to want something tangible that they can easily reference. The new design accommodates that by being smaller and more compact making it easy to travel with, pack or stick in a pocket.”

Each year, Visit Oceanside receives approximately 30,000 requests for guides from travelers planning to visit the area. The Visitor’s Guide provides a comprehensive list of accommodations and things to do, as well as a calendar of events and important city landmarks. The guide can be requested through at the Visit Oceanside website at www.mail-forward.org. A pdf version of the guide also will be available for download from the website by July 1.
