These acts of service and valor forged a bond like no other: but returning to civilian life in their various hometowns had made it difficult to keep in touch over the years.
The Veterans Memorial Garden on Camp Pendleton is a peaceful space overlooking the Pacific Ocean, paying tribute to veterans and active-duty service members. That garden is the home to various military monuments including Staff Sergeant Reckless, Prisoners of War, and Chosin Few.
