Bagby Beer Company Update
Check out what’s been happening with Oceanside’s newest brewery-in-progress, Bagby Beer Company:
January 28: “4 Kenny: Cancer can’t kill me”: Bagby transforms graffiti into moment of true community
Bagby Beer Company was vandalized with this message on Monday, January 28. Immediately calling the police, Jeff (pictured in this post) and Dande Bagby then took a step back to think about the true meaning of the message. They realized there was more to the story and decided to try to find out what that was.
Dande discovered the deeper story when she came across Robin, Kenny’s wife who came to see the tribute to her husband. At the time, Kenny was in the ICU battling cancer. Dande hugged Robin and decided to make a bad situation into a powerful display of community and gratitude by keeping the graffiti up until it can be replaced with a permanent tribute to Kenny. A few days after the encounter, the Bagbys found out that Kenny had died. Using publicity from social media to spread the word, Jeff and Dande Bagby provided this Go Fund Me link to promote donations to a campaign set up to help Robin in her time of grief. The goal was to raise $15,000 and, with Bagy Beer Company’s help, the campaign has raised a little over $17,000. Read more about this story on the Bagby Beer blog.
