Travel Tips for Traveling with Tech
With the world being more accessible than ever, most of us will be traveling at some point this year. Whether you’re taking a much-needed vacation, traveling for work, or just going to see your mother, traveling can be much less stressful if you plan ahead, especially when it comes to traveling with electronics. Here are a few tips to help you plan your trip when traveling with tech.
If you are flying, you will have to go through security and deal with the TSA. Remember to pack laptops on top of your carry-on where they will be easily accessible. Tablets do not usually have to be removed, but having them in an easily accessible place will save you the trouble of rummaging through your luggage if they do ask you to take them out.
To keep cables neatly corralled, try an old sunglasses case or a small vanity bag. Forget your phone charger? Ask at the front desk—people leave them behind all the time.
Make sure you have sturdy cases for all of your devices. Otterbox and Lifeproof both make good protective cases that will keep your devices safe on the road or in the air.
Public WiFi (especially in airports) is a great place for thieves to steal your identity. Make sure you connect either to the airport WiFi or use a mobile device that connects to cell towers to help prevent any security breaches.
Make sure you back up all relevant documents and information every night, to a separate hard drive or secure online storage solution like the Cloud. It will save you major headaches if your devices are stolen or ruined during your travels.
