The Oceanside Museum of Art is alive with action this summer! From new exhibitions to receptions to family fun days, Oceanside Museum of Art events are among the many unique things to do in Oceanside CA!
Summer 2014 at Oceanside Museum of Art
July 6, 1-4 p.m.
The first Sunday of every month is free for all to visit the museum! A leader of arts and culture in North County San Diego, Oceanside Museum of Art gives Oceanside residents and visitors the chance to experience diverse exhibitions at no cost! Stop by the museum to explore the exhibitions and to shop in their store for unique, art-inspired gifts.
July 12, 6-8 p.m.
Celebrate the opening of a new exhibition: Spitting in the Wind. A tribute to the enduring friendships of Richard Allen Morris, John Baldessari, Bob Matheny, and Russell Baldwin, this exhibition features the impressive range of art from these artists while they lived in the San Diego area. The exhibition’s title reflects the feeling that the unconventional art produced by these friends (much of it in the 1950s and 1960s) was often underappreciated at the time. Don’t miss the chance to appreciate this unique exhibition now! This event is free for OMA members and $10 for nonmembers.
July 15, 7-8:30 p.m.
An interesting and distinctive artist, John Daniel Abel will discuss his dislike for conceptual art and theory and his passion for people on the fringes of society in this lecture. Meet Abel and hear his take on his current exhibition at Oceanside Museum of Art, Rank n’ File. This event is free for OMA members and $10 for nonmembers.
July 22-25, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
The Summer@ArtQuest program aims to promote the study and appreciation of modern and contemporary art among children in a fun and relaxed environment. Children will participate in individual and group projects in painting, drawing, sculpture, and graphic design and will use their work to create their own art exhibit for viewing by family on the final day. Reservations are required, so contact the museum for availability. The cost is $95 for members and $120 for nonmembers.
July 26, 6-11 p.m.
This black-tie event is one of North County’s premier fundraising evenings! The Museum Ball celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, making this year’s event even more extraordinary. Enjoy a twilight champagne reception, cocktails, hors d’oeuvre, and a delicious dinner. Finish the evening with an auction and dancing under the stars! The auction will support the museum’s educational programs and exhibitions. The cost is $200 per person; RSVP by July 19, 2014.
