Oceanside is fortunate to have a flourishing, diverse culinary scene. Out of the many dining options, three fun places with superb happy hour food and drink specials are Masters Kitchen and Cocktail, Mission Ave Bar and Grill and The Privateer Coal Fire Pizza. And these popular Oceanside restaurants are among the 30 local restaurants supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by participating in the gourmet tasting at Foodie Fest Encinitas May 21st 2016. The festival will be held at The Lumberyard Encinitas from 11am-4pm. Tickets are available now at foodiefestencinitas.com.
Masters Kitchen and Cocktail
Chef Aaron Gentry recently took over as executive chef at Masters Kitchen and introduced fresh menu items featuring lighter, wholesome ingredients. Standouts are the Mussels finished in a zesty fennel, Sriracha, ginger sesame broth that brings out the briny elegance of the shellfish and the super fluffy Hush Puppies served with creole remoulade sauce and malt vinegar. Built on the premises of a converted drag car shop, Masters embraces its industrial chic roots serving elevated cuisine in a beach casual atmosphere. Chef Aaron is working on expanding the scrumptious small plate selection for Spring and Summer.

Mission Ave Bar and Grill
Owners Cameron Braselton and Marcus Diaz have cultivated a family friendly “Cheers” type atmosphere at their welcoming Mission Ave Bar and Grill. The garage style doors to the patio open up for stellar sunset views from both indoors and out. Chef Adam Griffin channels his Southern roots to add kick to his elevated gastropub menu items such as the crisp Pork Belly Skewers smothered in chipotle BBQ sauce or the Wings with Mango Jalapeño, Caribbean Jerk or Spicy Bourbon Buffalo sauce. On the drink side, Mission offers over 40 California beers on tap and over 100 bourbons and whiskeys. Mission Ave is actually Oceanside’s original whiskey bar.

The Privateer Coal Fire Pizza
The convenient Coast Hwy 101 location, relaxed atmosphere, creative pizzas and stellar salads make The Privateer the perfect place to chill any day of the week. The indoor/outdoor seating and daily happy hour specials are an added attraction. The most popular combo deals are the Three Taquitos with a Pacifico for $5.50 and the half order of Coal Fire Chicken Wings with a Stella Artois for $8. The optional gluten-free crust baked in the 100% coal fire oven is outstanding. Other go to items include the House Ricotta Gnocchi and Fried Brussels Sprouts. A large part of the reason why The Privateer’s food is so tasty is that they use fresh seasonal ingredients such as the organic greens, spices, veggies and herbs sourced locally from Oceanside’s Cyclops Farms.
