This warm-hearted tale centers on Mrs. Ethel Savage, a slightly eccentric widow, who has been spending her inherited money perpetuating the dreams and hopes of others, much to her step-children’s chagrin. They do not accept the fact that she is spending “their” money and decide to have her committed to the “Cloisters”, a group home for those emotionally disabled, and have her declared as mentally incompetent. It is in this “home” that she meets a variety of social misfits who cannot adjust themselves to the outside world. These five colorful individuals immediately endear themselves to Mrs. Savage and begins to feel a part of their small functional cloister, while her step-children are sent on a wild goose-chase, as they each search for the money.
This heartfelt comedy reminds the audience that the neglected virtues of kindness and acceptance can sometimes be found in the least likely of places.
