In recognition of Black History Month and “The Big Read Program”, the Oceanside Public Library presents Black History Month Films Festival. On Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 6:00pm, the Oceanside Civic Center Library (330 N. Coast Hwy) will show the movie “The Help” at the Library Community Room.
“The Help” is an inspirational story about Skeeter, an aspiring female author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s, who decides to write a book detailing the African-American maid’s point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis. She then builds the friendship around her secret writing project. “The Help” is rated PG-13 (running time 146 minutes).
The “Big Read Program” is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to the center of American culture.
