Are you looking for things to do in Oceanside? Did you know Oceanside Historical Society features Downtown History Walks on the second Saturday of each month beginning at 9:00am? Well you are in for a treat!
Your tour guide will be Oceanside native and 101 historian John Daley.
The Summer History Walks begin at the Oceanside Civic Center Fountain at Coast Highway and Pier View Way. (Look for the plaque commemorating Oceanside’s founder, Andrew Jackson Myers!)
Walks take participants to Oceanside’s historic homes, churches, and banks, three Irving J. Gill buildings, the famed “Top Gun” house, the Oceanside Pier and bandshell and a variety of other sites.
John Daley has been doing the tour for 20 years now and along with the knowledge he as gained from the Historical Society he adds in his own personal experiences growing up in Oceanside. It makes for an educational, interesting, and unique view of this ever growing and changing community.
Weather you are visiting Oceanside for the first time or the tenth time, or you are new resident or have been in Oceanside California for years the history walk is a wonderful experience. For visitors to Oceanside, ca the walk is a great opportunity to get a peek into all the hidden treasures within our quiet beach town. For locals the tour brings a new dimension to buildings and monuments we pass every day.
Along your walk be sure to look for the “O.U. Miracle” on the sidewalks and curbs, there’s a great story behind them, so make sure to ask your tour guide.
And the best part… Walks are free and open to everyone and are pleasantly paced so folks of all ages can participate. The tour typically takes about 2 hours.
Throughout the summer, through the month of September, walks will be held the 2nd Saturday of each month, and begin at 9:00 a.m. No need to phone in a reservation, just join the group by the “pond”!
