January Oceanside Events
After the hustle and bustle of a busy holiday season, January is the perfect time to refocus your energy and your attention on the family. Take advantage of our mild Southern California winter weather and explore all of the fun events and activities that are planned throughout the city during this time of year. From Tango dance lessons by the beach, to the South O Walkabout, San Diego Restaurant Week, American Crown Circus, and more. Oceanside is the place to be for the start of the new year! What: Join Kristi Hawthorne of the Oceanside Historical Society for an in-depth look at the history of surfing!

What: Come to Legacy Brewing on the first Saturday of every month for a classic car and bike meet! Chat it up with other car and bike enthusiasts and enjoy local beer while listening to live rockabilly music playing all day.

What: Tango By The Beach is a favorite for visitors and locals alike. Head over to the Pacific Street Linear Park outdoor pavilion just across the street from the beach at sunset. Enjoy Tango music and an introductory Tango dance lesson. This event is open to all skill levels, dancing can be learned and learned at all ages.
When: Saturday’s, January 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, 5pm lesson & 6-7:30pm practice

- What to Wear: There will be a roll out dance floor so you can easily pivot, but it is outdoors. Older dance shoes are better for the location. If you are new to Tango, smooth bottom shoes are recommended. It gets cool once the sun goes down, please bring a light jacket or sweater.
- Parking Information: There are several parking options available including Pay Lot 30, metered parking along the street, and a free parking lot about 1/2 mile away (east of the railroad tracks).
- Admission: This event is free, however $5 donations are welcome.
What: Inspired by Marisol Escobar and her unique sculptural contributions to the pop art movement, Robin Douglas will discuss techniques and complexities of 360 degree art as participants assemble 3D figures in the round using wood, drawings, photography, fabric and paint. All materials provided. Price is $30 for OMA members, $40 for visitors.
When: Tuesday, January 9th and Thursday, January 11th, 1-4pm

What: The locally organized South O Walkabout is a monthly walking event that showcases our localvore beach community and its’ unique shops and restaurants. This monthly event encourages attendees to discover the unique shopping and dining experiences offered in South Oceanside. So come eat, drink, shop, and Walk; Good Vibes only!
When: Wednesday, January 10th, 5-8pm
Where: South Oceanside – The Walkabout footprint is the shopping district in South O. On the south end it starts at Urge Gastropub and extends north to the Privateer Marketplace on Whaley St. The easy walk is about .4 miles each way.
What: This is a surfing competition to qualify competitors to the West Coast Championships, U.S. Championships, Prime Event, and any World Team Event. Sponsored by Western Surfing Association. Viewing the competition is free and open to the public, all ages will enjoy. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

What: The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon is an annual North County event occurring in January. Over 10,000 runners and walkers from all over the United States and many foreign countries are expected to participate in the race weekend festivities. The 26.2 and 13.1 mile courses will feature tours through Carlsbad Village, along oceanfront Pacific Coast Highway and past sandy beaches and picturesque lagoons. Participants are sure to stay motivated and entertained with support stations and live bands every mile, spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and thousands of spectators and volunteers lining the course. Both races start and finish at the Shoppes at Carlsbad. The marathon starts at 6:15 am and the first of 7 waves for the half marathon starts at 7:45 am.

- The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon works with 21 charities that use the event to raise funds and awareness through their association with the event. Race participants are encouraged to “run for a reason” by raising funds for one or more of the organizations, according to Christine Adams, CEO of In Motion, Inc. The race weekend also includes a three-day Health & Lifestyle Expo and Kids Marathon Mile at LEGOLAND on Saturday. Geared for children age 12 and under, the Kids Marathon Mile at LEGOLAND is a one-mile, noncompetitive, age-staged run/walk that winds through the LEGOLAND theme park, located at One LEGOLAND Drive in Carlsbad. A Diaper Dash, entertainment and other fun activities will take place immediately following the kids’ races.
What: San Diego Restaurant Week is being held January 21-28, 2018. Enjoy 8 days and over 180 restaurants in San Diego County will be offering special lunch and dinner menus. This is a great opportunity to explore the buzzing dining scene in San Diego. Participating Oceanside restaurants include 333 Pacific and Hunters Steakhouse.

What: The American Crown Circus invites you to witness the International Circus under the Big Top! This unique circus was designed with a family audience in mind the instruments one ring setting under a big top that provides spectators up close and personal exposure to the circus. Children and adults will be mesmerized as aerial artists swing, acrobats tumble and artist defy the laws of gravity just inches from their seats. The circus will be taking place January 25-29, located between the DMV and Tri-City Crossroads Shopping Center off the 78 freeway.
