No city loves and appreciates cycling more than Oceanside, California. With ample trails and great bus and rail connections you can get anywhere in and through Oceanside by bike. In fact, Oceanside is ranked at a Bronze level of Bike Friendly Communities, best in San Diego County!
Here are a few notable bike trails to check out:
Oak Riparian Park, located at 4625 Lake Boulevard connects to over 6.4 miles of trails via Carlsbad’s Calavera Trail System, providing access to the Lake Calavera Trails. The San Luis Rey River trail is a Class I bicycle trail open to pedestrians as well. The trail is 7.2 miles, one way, from the Neptune access (west end) to the eastern-most point on the College Bridge. The trail follows the path o the San Luis Rey River. This relatively flat trail is safe for all age groups, is completely separate from motorized traffic, and is free of stop signs and traffic lights.
Oceanside Coastal Rail Trail is a short trail that will eventaully form a part of the Coastal Rail Trail from Oceanside to San Diego, this trail runs along the active Coaster commuter rail. The trail crosses the tracks at Cassidy St. in the middle of the segment.
Oceanside promotes bicycling with the Oceanside Family Bike Day along the Sun Luis Rey River Trail, a new Historic Bicycle Tour downtown, and by encouraging local cyclists to ride along with Race Across America competitors at the start of each year’s race. Oceanside also offers the Blue Bike program, making bikes available for free, public use. The city has also redesigned intersections with improved signange, bicycle detection sensors and pavement markings.
